In 2023 I continued my project of tracking various thing in my life. I’ve toned this process down over the years and for 2023 I only tracked a few things; the music I listened to, the movies I watched, and the books I read or listened to. Here is the result of that tracking. I present to you the gdilly 2023 Year In Review!
I use two services to do this tracking. For the movies and books I use a manual entry process through a website called daytum.com. The site did a huge overhaul a few years ago but hasn’t had many updates if any since then. Regardless, the process works and I can add a new entry in under a minute. For music, I use last.fm. This service connects to Spotify and “scrobbles” every song played. Last.fm logs all of these listens or scrobbles automatically. I primarily listen to music on Spotify so it is able to capture 95% of the music. The other 5% consists of listening to vinyl records and I use a site called vinylscrobbler.com to manually enter the record. The site then logs the listen into last.fm and that data is captured as well. From there I have to do some manual analysis to obtain the top songs, albums, and artists of the year but with a little Excel skill that doesn’t take very long.
In a reality, the a hardest part was building the infographic to present the information in a meaningful way but I think it turned out more than okay.
