A Me Website

I find the idea of sharing yourself to those around you and the world intriguing. Unfortunately, I (for the most part) don’t like or participate in social media very much. The influencers, look at mes, and blatant misinformation that fill up the feeds is to much for me. Instead of encouraging me to share, it does the opposite. It shuts me down and I run away from it.

It’s human nature (or I least I think it is) to want to be known. But in this world who knows who you are? Who around you knows about the things you are thinking about, what interests you, and all the things you love or make you who you are? Some people are open books and share everything with no regard of what others think of them or what negative opinions others may feel about their hobbies or things they cherish. I like the things I like but at the same time can be a private person except to those very very close to me and even then I may not share all the things.

I loved Twitter back in the day. You could post into the void. If people followed you and saw it so be it. If they replied you could ignore. There was no pressure to like someone else’s post or actively engage whatsoever. But that platform is limited and I keep coming back to the idea of using this website to share what’s filling up my thoughts or time, my passions or what I’m working on, or just the things I genuinely enjoy.

So, I’m getting this site updated with a new look, new pages, and plan on adding a new post every week if I can. I know how I want the site to operate and know what I want to put on it. But coding has never been a skill I have been good out. I am going to find layouts that are close to what I am looking for and then will spend the time to figure out how to make it look like what I am thinking. I’m sure there will be things I just can’t do with my limited knowledge but I’ll worry about that when I cross that bridge.

The site was being hosted on WordPress.com but when I realized I couldn’t use plugins are other functionality without paying $25 a month I figured there had to be better options. The first thing I realized was that I was using WordPress.com instead of WordPress.org which was intended to be free where you provided your own hosting. I was probably a bit hasty when I decided to move my site and domain to Bluehost.com but $36 a year is a much better deal for my wallet.

So far I have version 1 of the site ready. I am planning on having dedicated pages for things I recommend, things I am currently obsessed over, my data and life logging efforts, my favorite things like movies, music, quotes, things in general, and other items that pop up I want to add.

I probably won’t post every week despite that being my goal and I won’t even try to guess for how long I will do this. Could be weeks, could be years. But for now I am on board and things are rolling.
