New Achievement! MORE, MORE, MORE!
You successfully read all 7 realized books in the Dungeon Crawler Carl Series. Not only did you read them, you read them in less than 90 days. Despite work, a daily commute, travel soccer, family, friends, and other life activities you scarfed down 4,080 pages across 7 books in 3 months when you only read 10 books in all of 2024. I know these books are good but jeez save some for the others you demented bastard. Feels like you really like the apocalypse video game RPG genre.
Prize: Rediscovering your love of reading, discovering a new book series, and the agony of having to wait for the rest of the series to be written and published.
I can’t recommend this book series enough. For a geek like me this is perfection. End of the world apocalypse, alien involved reality tv show, real life video game. The books are hysterical with many laugh out loud moments but contain horror. Terrible terrible things happen throughout every book. Violence, gore, and general crudeness are everywhere but so is the humor.
The books are part of a genre of books called LitRPG. The characters are literally RPG characters like you would find in a Final Fantasy, Dungeon and Dragons, or World of Warcraft game. The point is the characters have to play the game and level up themselves, their skill points, their weapons, their armor, and their spells and equipment to survive. I had never heard of this genre before but I am so glad I stumbled across it as I now have a lot more books to add to my read pile.
You’ll root for Carl, Princess Donut, and Mongo at every step throughout the books. Really, you’ll end up cheering for almost all of the crawlers. Dinniman has added a boat load of side characters who all play important roles throughout the books. So many side characters in fact, there were many times I could not keep up with who was who and who did what. For the most part that’s not really that important but I was impressed Dinniman was able to come up with so many and keep them involved in the story.
The only way to survive is to beat all the levels but that proves to be beyond difficult for most crawlers. We have 7 books so far with another 3 likely before the story is wrapped up. Let’s just hope Dinniman cranks these out as I am already itching for another.
